Would you have expected anything less than fabulous from the original von Trapp Family, the family on which the musical, The Sound of Music is based on?

After escaping the Nazi regime in Austria in the late 1930′s, the von Trapps immigrated to the United States eventually settling in the mountains of Vermont and by the early ’50′s had founded a 27 room Alpine Lodge which boasts their own 100km Cross Country ski trails for every level of skier or snowshoer. The accommodations vary from the luxurious lodge to private cabins. Week long rentals can be had or you can even buy a fractional or whole ownership of one of their new vacation home options. There isn’t much this industrious family hasn’t thought of. They offer Yoga & fitness classes, art & crafts for the kids, wine tastings, swimming and a Music Camp. There is always something going on for everyone, every age, every season. P.S. They also have pet friendly lodging AND their own brewery!

With Bromley Mountain minutes away, Johnny Seesaw’s has long been a favorite for ski familes for a decades. Founded in the 1920′s by a Russian logger, Ivan Sesow, as a dance hall/roadhouse, it was fast turned into a the lodge it is today by 1938. You may choose from rustic cabins with fireplaces or camp like accommodations in the lodge are available. The rates are very reasonable and the dining at the Inn is highly acclaimed by all. This is perfect for a week of skiing with several young families who are there to hit the slopes. The other big plus is amazing outlet shopping for those non-ski days in local, Manchester, Vermont.

The opportunity and prices are unbeatable here starting at $65. a day per person which includes lodging, dinner and breakfast. The accommodations are true cabin lodge style with bunk rooms, a communal great room and family style dining. This is barebones, folks. You bring your own bedding and towels, but they supply warm huts and comfy bunks and pillows. Books and games are available for night time entertainment in each hut. What a way to experience a cross country ski trip!

    Ooooh its a toss up between Vermont & Lake Placid NY for me please!
    Although “The deep down filled beds dressed in luxurious sheets and woven wool blankets” may just tip the scale. :)
