Everyone has different Christmas traditions, some large and some small, but all so very, very meaningful. A few of our interior designers Christmas traditions are shared with us and here is what designers Kate Reynolds and Stacy Waggoner of Studio Four NYC, Sam Allen and Sara Gilbane had to say…
Kate Reynolds of Studio Four NYC –
“We have a family tradition which is the “dogs” in our family always give us all a new set of pajamas on Christmas Eve to wear that night. I grew up with about 4+ dogs always as my parents live on a farm.”
Stacy Waggoner of Studio Four NYC –
“I grew up in Texas and our holiday tradition is a big tamale party on Christmas night – we’ve been doing it forever – my parents started throwing it when my oldest brother was home from college and invited all his friends so they could catch up (and escape the forced family fun of the holidays). Over the years it has morphed into a multi-generational event. We never send out invitations – everyone just knows to come.
We usually have about 150 people so after opening gifts on Christmas morning, we spend the day cooking – the tamales come from local experts and the chips from our favorite TexMex restaurant, but we make everything else – guacamole, queso, green chile grits…”
I love the idea of bowls and platters or apothecary jars or any kind of vessel actually filled with things that have been glass glittered. It could be pinecones, walnuts, glass ornaments, mandarin oranges with leaves, lady apples, artichokes… anything I can get my hands on. Nothing looks as pretty or special and it never fails to get me in the holiday spirit, not to mention these are all things you can do your self!
“My favorite holiday tradition is secret Santa with my family. We have a tree trimming party and do our secret Santa swap after.”
