Young, fresh and clean. What better words could describe Bucharest born Andreea Avram Rusu’s  approach to renovating and decorating this Miami Beach getaway.

The family, a  New York couple with grown children,  wanted a place that would be available for any of them if they wanted to run away for a few days or a week during the course of the winter.  There were different needs to be filled for this large family of all ages. The primary one?  Easy living.  They are there for fun. It’s Miami Beach!

Rusu’s approach to keep everything streamlined and simple resulted in her using white as the base color  The variety of materials gives the apartment texture and depth and those great splashes of bring this home alive.

Rusu’s extensive background in architecture and lighting design is evident in the way she is able to play the materials off of each other to absorb and reflect the bold splashes of color in this winter retreat.  In addition to her Interior Design practice, her Brooklyn waterfront studio in New York produces a lighting collection,  Avram Rusu, which she founded ten years ago to customize her lighting needs.

Andreea Avram Rusu Decorating Points

Rusu is a master of reorganizing a space, designing custom built-in pieces, selecting finishes,fixtures, lighting, furniture, fabrics, art and accessories.  Here’s what she does.

- Plenty of built in storage

-Recessed section for extra seating

-A mix of high &  low, custom and retail, vintage and contemporary pieces. Shop around!

- Nothing is too precious.

- Use vibrant colors to offset by clean neutral tones.

-Formal textures are layered over informal textures as with the iridescent silk pillows on the cotton velvet sofa.

Rusu gave the Master bedroom flexibility by being able to switch it from a King sized bed to two Twin sized bed in order to fit the needs of whoever was using the apartment at the time. . The headboard runs the length of the wall to serve double duty and with a simple change of linens the room is given an entirely different look.
